How to build and develop a well navifated website

When designing your website, it is important that you consider how the navigational structure of the site will impact on the browsers' experiences.
There is nothing worse than getting lost in a website as it can cause browsers to exit the site completely and choose another. Other annoying navigational issues include:
• getting caught in "a loop" between pages,
• having too many menus to choose from,
• seeing a high quantity of pages which all seem to relate to the same topic, e.g. "Services" page and "What we Do" page,
• finding dead or broken links that leaves you with error messages,
• clicking on pages that take too long to load.
To try and combat some of these issues, you should pay attention to the layout of your site during its creation. It is not just about getting a pretty design and lots of copy, but also about the structure of the menus and pages. You might also want to introduce sub menus to help you categorise pages. This allows browsers to freely pick between pages without getting confused.
Another idea is to introduce breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs technique involves putting a list of the pages
you have visited and come from, so that you can find your way back. This might include, for example, "About Us> Experience> Clients." What is ideal about this method is that your browsers never find any "dead ends" and they can easily go back to the home page.
The home page, or landing page, should always be the centre of your site. Everything should run off this page and it should therefore be easy to read and manage. Your menu should also show on this page, either down the side or at the top, and you might want to include some choices for browsers on the main body of the page. This could include "Click here to find out more information about our packages" or "Read all about Industry news here."
Not only will a well navigated website allow browsers to have a better experience of the site when on it, but it will also help in terms of SEO. Google likes to see well managed and organised sites, and one with lots of broken links or weak content may not score highly in search term results. If you are struggling, it might be a good idea to hire a professional to help you with the task.
